Troubleshooting Erratic Braking Force from Trailer Brakes Powered by Primus IQ TK90160
Question:
I have just purchased a 2014 colorado force with the primus brake controller fitted I am towing a 20 foot cocept caravan which would have a 2.5 to 3ton gross weight.I have set controller as to instructions on this site just when I think its set right on first application is good next application more severe and so on until 5or6 applications all in the same slowing down event feels like the van is ripping the back out of the ute any ideas Cheers.

Trailer brake controllers such as the Tekonsha Primus IQ # TK90160 have both power and boost settings but these should remain as you have set them even if you have applied the brakes a few times.
The two most likely issues, both of which are on the trailer side, are either a mechanical problem with the brake assemblies themselves (damage or need for adjustment) or an electrical problem, such as a trailer-mounted battery somehow leaking its power into the brake circuit.
I suggest testing the vehicle and controller with a different trailer (or your trailer with a different tow vehicle and controller) to isolate the issue to either the vehicle or trailer. If another trailer displays the same odd behavior then you most probably have a damaged controller.
