Recommended 4-Way Connector for 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Hello, I purchased the 7- and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Socket w/ Mounting Bracket to use the OEM wiring harness adapter under the Jeep bumper for my 2018 GC. The Jeep dealer states I need the braking module in order to have them activate the harness. I asked them, if that is the case what is that harness connected to now? I have seen that in the other discussions the dealer needs to enable the harness. Do all newer Jeep GC need the braking module or only have the computer turn on the harness adapter for usage. I have a small trailer and only need it for lights. I have the DrawTite Hitch, HM40975 7/4 pole adapter and mount. I can say my Jeep dealer is not the best in the two times I have used their service department. Please advise if I am better off to return the 7/4 pole adapter and get the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector and mounting bracket instead.

If your 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee did not come equipped with a factory connector at the rear of the vehicle, but does have the factory tow package wiring, then the Hopkins Connector Socket # HM40975 that you mentioned will fit. With this mind, as you have discovered, you may indeed need to visit a local Jeep dealer for them to actually activate the factory harness.

Since you only need a 4-Way connector to power the trailer's signal lights, your best option will probably be with the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118727 that you also referenced. This will plug right into built-in ports behind the tail lights and then you will just need to run a hot lead up to the Jeep's battery. This will install completely separate from any factory tow package wiring and will not require anything from the dealer to activate the 4-Way once installed.

I have attached an installation video on this harness that you can also check out.
