Fifth Wheel Rail Kit Recommendation for 2017 Ford F-250 Short Bed

Question:

Hi, I have a 2017 F250 SRW with a 6 3/4’ bed, without the 5th wheel prep package. I am about to purchase a 2013 Jayco Eagle 31.5RLTS and I need advice on the adapter brackets and type of hitch I would need. I saw a curt custom fit kit that seems to be correct, however I don’t know, from reading about it, what work would be involved in mounting the kit. Primary concerns being would I have to lift the truck bed? And how much drilling would be involved. I don’t have easy access to a lift and I just had the spray in bed liner finished. Thanks!

For your 2017 Ford F-250 short bed without the factory fifth wheel rail kit the Curt under-bed rail system part # C16428-204 is a confirmed fit and will work well. Custom install kits like this are the way to go as they allow you to install them in about half the time as a universal kit and they minimize drilling as well.

I attached a link to the install instructions below and there's no mention of having to raise the truck bed off of the frame to install the kit. That's a step more common with universal rail kits than a custom kit like this.

Then for a hitch to fit this rail kit you'll need a slider hitch to allow you to make tight turns. My favorite option is the Demco Hijacker AutoSlide part # DM8550034 because instead of having to get out of your truck every time you get to a parking lot this hitch automatically slides as you make the tight turn eliminating the need for that.
