I am not sure what you mean by "short hub" but I went out to the warehouse and found that the Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # AKIHUB-440-2-2K you referenced has a total depth of 4-1/4" as you can see in the attached picture.

I have a solution for you. You would actually want the part #AKIHUB-440-2-2K as it has a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern like you need and the bearings that come with the hub are designed to fit a hub with 1-1/16 inner diameter bearings.
