I have a curt q20 slider fifth wheel hitch, can i go to a short height slide, some thing like 15 to 17 height

Your existing Curt Q20 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # C16536 features a hitch height of 17-1/2 inches to 21-1/2 inches. There is nothing you can really do to allow this model hitch to sit lower than the lowest 17-1/2 inch setting. If you are having trouble getting your trailer level when hooking up, you may also be able to adjust the height setting of the pin box on the trailer.

Otherwise, there are lower profile options available for a sliding fifth-wheel hitch that you can look at. For a sliding hitch that will allow you to maintain the 20,000 pound capacity that you currently have, I recommend taking a look at the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider # RP30075. This is a really nice hitch that features a hitch height of 14 to 18 inches. It has a forged, single-piece jaw that will wrap around the king pin for an excellent connection with the trailer. This hitch will attach to the same base rails that your current Curt model uses.

I have attached a short video demonstration on this hitch that you can also check out.
