Trailer Hitch and Ball Mount for 2007 Honda CR-V

I own a 2007 Honda CR-V. I refuse to pay U-Haul $309 to buy and install a hitch and a 2 in ball mount so that I can rent a 6 x 12 ft U-Haul trailer to move my daughter -who goes to college 2 hours North of me- home for the summer. My friends a mechanic and said he thought $300 sounded like a reasonable price. BUT, I believe I should be able to buy yours and o it myself. I live in Florida so dont anticipate the huge rust problem Im reading about. From your website, it looks like the best fitinch would be a class lll Curt. But, I am clueless what all I also need to buy to get the job done..... Walmart has ball mounts for $25 so I guess I dont know what wiring, what ball mount, and specifically what hitch to buy. You sound like a great U.S. company with good customer service so Id rather buy it all from you. Oh, my last fear/dumbness is that comment paraphrasing that the hitch sits low under the bumpber so better check to see if whatever I wanna hitch to will fit. Can you check IF your hitch will work with whatever height a U-Haul 6 x 12 ft trailer is? I mean, they gotta be standard heights, right? Thanks......will order as soon as I hear back from yall.

I can help you figure out exactly what you will need on your 2007 Honda CR-V to get your daughter home.

First, Curt hitch # 13555 is a fit for your 2007 Honda CR-V and would be a good choice. This is a no-drill install that should be straightforward; I've added a link to a video of this hitch being installed on a '07 CR-V as well as the installation instructions for you to check out which should help determine if it's something you feel comfortable doing. In terms of the note that says the hitch is under the bumper, it is only 2-1/2" on your vehicle so you only need a ball mount that will clear that space, which is standard.

You will need a ball mount with the appropriate rise and drop, and to get this, you will need to know how far off the ground the bottom of U-Haul's coupler is and the difference between that and the measurement from the top of the Curt hitch, which we know is 15-1/2 inches.

To put it simply, you will need a ball mount with drop if the bottom of the U-Haul's coupler measures less than 15-1/2" or a ball mount with rise if the bottom of the U-Haul's coupler measures more than 15-1/2".

For example, if the bottom of the coupler was 12-1/2" your ball mount would need to have a 3" drop such as # C45310. The hitch ball you will need depends on what the U-Haul coupler takes, it will be either 1-7/8" or 2" and will need to fit in the ball mount; you will also need the correct pin and clip such as # C21500 to keep the ball mount in the hitch.

Then there is the wiring and I recommend Wiring Harness # 118427 which is a plug-in connector and will give you a 4-flat that you will plug the U-Haul's 4-flat in to power its lights.

While this can seem overwhelming, all you really need to know to get all of the correct parts is how far off the ground the bottom of the U-Haul's coupler is, and what size hitch ball the U-Haul coupler takes. If you let me know this info I would be happy to let you know the specifics of exactly what you need.
