Yakima Baseline or Skyline Roof Rack Recommendation for 2016 Mazda CX-5 for Fixed Point Roof

Question:

Hi, Im looking to purchase a roof rack system thats for the fixed mounts of my 2016 Mazda CX5. What would you suggest? I prefer the Thule brand but i dont like the one that clamps on the body. Also, Im considering Yakima brand but i wanted to find out the difference between the baseline and skyline towers. Thanks,

The difference between the Yakima Baseline towers and Skyline towers is the style of roof they are intended which in your case indicates how it would install. The Baseline kits are designed for naked roof and will use the door clamps.

The Skyline kits are designed for use on vehicles with factory fixed mounting points. Since this is the route you mentioned preferring on your 2016 Mazda CX-5 it would be your best option.

That means you'll want the Yakima Skyline Aero Bar kit part numbers # Y00421, # Y00148, and # Y00233.

Question:

Thanks for the response. Hi would i be able to use Thule products on Yakima bars? Like cargo basket and roof rack bike mount? Also, with the base roof system you mentioned, i’d be able to use the jetstream rather than corebars right? Thanks again,

Yes, Thule roof rack carriers like the Canyon XT part # TH859XT or the Thule ProRide part # TH598004 will fit well on Yakima roof racks.

You can use the JetStream bars part # Y00425 with the Skyline Towers # Y00148 and fit kit part # Y00233.
