can I make this vent work in a 4 inch thick roof?

Yes you can! The Ventline Ventadome Trailer Roof Vent # V2092SP-29 comes with a garnish that has a leg length of 2-1/8" and can accommodate a roof up to 3" thick. For your 4" thick roof you will simply want to use the Ventline Garnish # VA0445-35 which has a 3-1/8" leg.
You will also need the Install Kit # 344270KITW which includes the hardware and sealer you need to complete the installation.
