Trailer Wheel and Tire with Matching Weight Capacity

Question:

What does the Wheel capacity: 1,820 lbs mean? Is this the maximum weight the wheel can withstand. I am looking to upgrade to an aluminum wheel for my travel trailer that has a dry weight of 7725 lbs.

With combination products like the Lynx wheel and ST205/75R15 tire # LHAW320 the lower-rated of the two component parts determines overall capacity. This tire can handle 2150-lbs at its rated 65-psi pressure but the wheel itself is indeed rated for less weight, 1820-lbs, so that is the overall capacity of the combination item.

You want to choose wheels and tires to match the trailer's GVWR (gross vehicle weight rating), not its dry weight, since that is the most it can weigh and the weight that the wheels/tires need to handle. Take your trailer's GVWR and divide by the number of wheels/tires on it to determine the weight requirements for each. For example, if the GVWR is 10K and it is a tandem axle trailer then that means each wheel/tire needs to be able to handle 2500-lbs (10,000 / 4 = 2500).
