Using Reese Round Tube Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch on 2018 Ford F-250 with Factory Rails

Question:

I have been using the reese 16k with round tube slider on the rail bed system in our 2013 and 2016 EcoBoost ford. We just got a new 2108 f250 with the puck system and ordered the reese in box pick adaptor. The tabs in the front of the slider which should insert into the center slots of the reese adaptor wont as they appear to be bent back vs squared straight up and down. Should I try to bend them with a mallet or grind out part of the puck bracket in the bed to permit anchoring?

It sounds like your Reese fifth-wheel hitch is equipped with the now discontinued round tube slider RP50008 (see attached picture to verify this). This particular sliding base is not compatible with the Reese Elite Series Underbed Rail Adapter # RP30156 for the reason you described in your question. I cannot recommend modifying the hitch or rail adapter in any way, as this might weaken the connection point for the hitch.

In order to use your existing Reese hitch with this adapter, you will just need to replace the slider base with the Reese Square Tube Slider # RP30048. This will make your current hitch compatible with the Reese adapter so that you can use it in your new Ford F-250.
