Recommended Hitch Extension for 2014 Ram 3500 With Camper to Pull Large Boat Trailer

I have a 2014 Dodge Ram 3500 with a Class V factory hitch. With camper on I will need a 24inch extension to pull boat. Boat and trailer weight total 6500 lbs. Whats best for the extension?

For your 2014 Ram 3500 with factory 2-1/2 inch hitch receiver, I recommend the Reese Hitch Box Extension and Reducer for Titan 2-1/2" Trailer Hitches, 24" - 34" Long # RP45292. This will allow you the 24 inch extension that will allow you to tow your 6,500 lb boat trailer when using a weight distribution system. There is not a direct extension for a single hitch that doesn't require weight distribution for that towing capacity.

Without knowing your boat trailer, if you have a pole tongue that will allow mounting 29 inches back from hitch ball, you will want to use the Reese Pole-Tongue Adapter for Weight Distribution Systems # RP58393. Then you need to add a weight distribution system that is compatible with your trailer's loaded tongue weight. I've attached an article to assist.

Your alternative option is to use the TorkLift SuperHitch Original Trailer Hitch Receiver # TLD1108 to add a second hitch receiver to your existing factory hitch and then use the TorkLift SuperTruss Hitch Extension for SuperHitch Trailer Hitch Receivers - 24" Long # TLE1524 which would allow you to tow your trailer without weight distribution. This is a stronger option due to the stacked extension.
