Weight Distribution Needed for a 2016 Nissan Frontier Towing an R-pod R-179
Question:
Hi, I have a 2016 Nissan frontier crew cab 4.0l automatic. I want to tow a RPOD R179 . It weighs approx 3000 lbs , the tongue weight is 292 lbs. With the added weight of this hitch and about 200 - 300 lbs of cargo in the bed of the truck, would this be the right hitch? Can the tongue weight spec of the hitch be too much or should I choose one with a lower tongue weight spec?

You are definitely headed in the right direction!
When looking into purchasing a Weight Distribution (WD) system you want to find one with a Tongue Weight (TW) range that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your towing setup falls in the middle of. The TTW is found by adding the TW of your fully loaded trailer, which you can use part # 5780 for, along with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Keep in mind that a properly loaded trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the loaded weight of your trailer.
If the 292 lbs of TW is with your trailer loaded then you just need to determine how much of the 200 lbs - 300 lbs of cargo is going to sit behind the rear axle of your 2016 Nissan Frontier. Either way, the Fastway e2 # FA94-00-0800 has a TW range of 400 lbs - 800 lbs so this should be a great option for you. You also need a hitch ball, part # EQ91-00-6080 for a 2" or part # 63840 for a 2-5/16", which Fastway recommends using a 1-7/8" thin-walled socket like part # EQ70-00-4800 to make the installation easier.
Really the only way that you will exceed this system is if you load your trailer with over 1,000 lbs and you have your TW loaded over the 15% mark.
