Using Curt 34 Inch Extension on 2003 Chevy Silverado with Factory Hitch and TorkLift Tie-Downs

I recently purchased a used Chev 2500 HD Extra Cab Long Bed. Also purchased the Owners Lance Camper which is 10.9. The Truck has Air Bags and Torklift Frame Mount Camper Tie Downs installed. Camper is 2600lbs with Water... Truck is specd for 3547 lbs Max Cargo with all passengers. My goal is to tow a small Utility Trailer or Uhaul 12... 4500lbs Max. I have measured and looks like I need 33inch Extension. Looks like the 45048 Curt would fit the bill. However I have the stock Chev Hitch which is only 2inch receiver and rated at 7500lbs dead 10,000 w/WD. The hitch is pretty rusty so Im okay replacing it at the same time. Would love to have the Torklift hitch combo... but out of budget. I am not brand loyal... I have used Curt in the Past and like them. But Im open to any combo. So I need a Hitch, plus Extender, and it needs to work with the existing Torklift Frame Mounted Camper Jacks. Please Advise at your convenience. Id also like to avoid frame drilling if possible. Thanks.

I do have a solution for you; however, it will require some changes to the existing components on your truck.

The Curt Hitch Extension # C45048 that you referenced does look to be your best option for getting the extension you need to tow a trailer with your Chevy Silverado and Lance Camper. As you mentioned, this does require you to have a 2-1/2 inch hitch receiver on your truck. Also keep in mind that when used at its max 34 inch length it has a maximum trailer weight capacity of 4,500 pounds.

To replace the factory hitch on your 2003 Chevy Silverado I recommend the Draw-Tite Class V # DT45519. This hitch is confirmed to fit your Silverado and will use existing holes in its frame for a no-drill installation. It will give you a 2-1/2 inch receiver opening and plenty of weight capacity. Your factory hitch will need to be removed.

Now the issue with replacing the factory hitch on your truck is that it will change how your existing TorkLift Custom Camper Tie-Downs are attached. Since these custom tie-downs are specific based on not only the base model truck you have, but also what it is equipped with, your existing rear tie-downs would have been designed specifically for use with the factory Chevy hitch.

Changing the hitch to an aftermarket model will require you to also replace the rear TorkLift Tie-Downs with part # TLR3501.

The total cost of the Draw-Tite Hitch and new rear tie-downs still fall below the cost of the TorkLift Trailer Hitch that you mentioned, so this is still your best option.
