Instructions say disconnect negative battery lead , how does one power brake buddy?

According to the online version of the owner's manual for your 2018 Ford Edge you will indeed need to disconnect the negative (black) cable from the battery in order to flat tow the vehicle with all 4 wheels on the ground. For these types of vehicles the solution for powering braking systems like your Brake Buddy is the 12 Volt Outlet Kit # RM-9332. This will wire directly to the battery to provide a power source that can be used just for the braking system while still leaving the rest of the vehicle wiring turned off.
