Separating Turn and Brake Lights on a Trailer
Question:
Trailer wiring for separate turn, stop, and reverse lights. Would I have to use a fourteen pin connector to something like this? For independently operating turn and brake lights with reverse electric brakes and 12V line? or 7-pin plus a 4-pin.... For future reference...

Expert Reply:
Domestic trailers have a 2-wire system where there is a circuit for the running lights and a circuit for the brake lights and turn signals; our trailer connectors are not configured for a separate brake circuit. You can separate those by using Converter # C56196.
If you check out the diagram from the instructions of this converter you can see how you will wire it; the green wire is for the right turn and brake, the yellow wire is for the left turn and brake while the white wire is for ground. I have added a link to a video review and the instructions for you to take a look at.
