What is the Towing Capacity of a 2018 GMC Terrain

I bought the draw-tite 76419N 2 inch trailer hitch for my 2018 GMC Terrain but I don’t know how much weight my vehicle can tow and how much the trailer hitch weighs. I know what the trailer hitch can handle but not my vehicle.

According to the owner's manual for your 2018 GMC Terrain, if the trailer does not have brakes then you can only tow up to 1,000 lbs but if the trailer does have brakes then you can tow up to following based on engine size:

1.5L Gas Engine with Front Wheel Drive (FWD) - 1,500 lbs.
1.5L Gas Engine with All Wheel Drive (AWD) - 1,500 lbs.
1.6L Diesel Engine or 2.0L Gas Engine - 1,500 lbs.
2.0L Gas Engine with V92 Trailering Provisions (Tow Package) - 3,505 lbs.

The Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 76419 weighs around 44 lbs but that is not really relevant in regards to towing capacity. The hitch is rated for 4,500 lbs but as the vehicle will be lower, that is the figure you need to abide by.

If your trailer is over 1,000 lbs then you will need to add a 7-way and trailer brake controller if you have not already done so. In order to add a 7-way you will need to first have a 4-way like the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118285 if you do have the factory tow package or the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness part # 118764 if you do NOT have the factory tow package. Then once you have a 4-way installed you can adapt it to a 7-way using the 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat Adapter part # ETBC7. For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 because it has integrated safeguards and continuous diagnostic checks.

The above will be everything you need to tow a trailer with brakes. I have attached review/install videos for you as well.
