Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2011 Chevy HHR Equipped with the Roadmaster Base Plate Kit # 3141-1

Question:

I just bought a 2011 Chevrolet HHR which has the base plate 3141-1 already installed. It does not have the removable arms or cross bar. Can I purchase the arms separately and do I need the cross bar? I think Ive seen some tow bars connected directly to these arms. Also, am I limited to just Roadmaster tow bars because of their base plate already there? And lastly, what else will I need besides a brake of some type for the Chevrolet? Thank you!!!!

You can purchase just the arms for the XL Base Plate Kit # 3141-1 on your 2011 Chevrolet HHR. These are found as part # RM-ARMS on our site. The part number is a link to a form (which has been attached to this page) that will need to be sent in to Roadmaster as the arms are custom-made for each base plate kit.

Once you have the replacement arms then I do recommend using the Roadmaster Falcon 2 # RM-520 which comes with the quick-disconnect bracket. Safety cables like part # RM-643 will also need to be used.

You can use an adapter like part # RM-032 which then allows you to use a Blue Ox tow bar but the Roadmaster products are just as good so there really isn't a reason for using the adapter if you don't already have a tow bar.

For wiring I recommend the Flexo-Coil Kit # RM-15267. This installs permanently on your HHR and sets up by simply connecting the adapter from your motorhome to your Chevy. You can also install the Charge Line Kit # RM-156-25 and the Fuse Bypass # RM76511 to keep your battery from draining.

When it comes to a braking system I highly recommend the SMI Stay-N-Play DUO # SM99251. The installation is involved but after that it is very easy to setup as it stays installed on your vehicle

Most flat towing setups require a high-low adapter for the tow bar to remain level while towing. I have linked our selection of adapters for you to check out as well as an article that will help you determine which is the best one for your application.

Attached are some videos and helpful articles but you will want to check your owner's manual and follow any instructions on flat towing as well.
