Recommended Hitch for Trial 5th Wheel Towing Using 2017 Nissan Titan XD Long Bed w/OEM Tow Package

Looking for a 5th wheel hitch to use on my 2017 Nissan Titan XD SV Diesel Regular Cab Longbed w/ OEM gooseneck hitch and towing package. Were interested in renting some 5th wheels to tow around as we decide between a 5th wheel and tongue trailer. If we decide to go the 5th wheel route, well probably just have a Reese Goosebox installed, so I dont want to invest too much in the experiment. I wont be towing anything above the rated 12k lbs nor exceeding the 1800 lb hitch weight limit. See that you have the Demco that appears to only attach to the gooseneck ball and the Curt that attaches to the gooseneck ball and both anchor points. Concerned the Demco may rotate in the bed as we rattle down the road, but that may be unfounded. Recommendations? Looking for an expert opinion. Thanks in advance.

I would go with the Curt E16 5th wheel hitch if your 5th wheel trial time will be fairly extensive. However, if you only plan on towing a few times then the Demco Recon is the way to go as it is a cost-effective option that will give you a good idea of what 5th wheel towing is like.

For the Curt route, you'll need Curt E16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch for Nissan Titan XD Towing Prep Package - Slide Bar Jaw - 16K # C16515-16026 which attaches to your 2017 Nissan Titan XD's OEM Prep Package. You'll also need Sidewinder Wedge # C16991 to keep the king pin from rotating inside the hitch.

The Demco Recon Adapter # DM8550045 is actually secured by a coupler bolt and coupler pin to help keep it from moving while you are towing. I have attached part of the instructions that shows how this is done. For a cost-effective way to test out towing a 5th wheel trailer hit is a great option as it is lightweight and fully secures the king pin in the head unit.
