Does 2018 Ford F-150 CPU Need to be Flashed After Installing Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller

The brake trailer controller factory part from Ford is a plug and play like this item that needs the CPU reflashed. This break controller does not? How does that work if the OEM part needs flashing of the computer?

I spoke with my contact at Tekonsha regarding the Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195 and your 2018 Ford F-150. He said that they have actually found that the need for the CPU to be flashed on the 2018 (as well as 2017 and 2019) Ford F-150s seems to be random after installing the controller. They have installed many and they have heard from many customers where a trip to the dealer wasn't necessary. They have also found some that did need to be flashed for the truck to recognize the new brake controller.

Unfortunately at this time there doesn't seem to be a clear pattern as far as knowing beforehand whether you will need to have the truck flashed. I can say that we have not had to have the CPU flashed when installing brake controllers on the 2017 model F-150 in house. We have not gotten a chance to install one on a 2018 as of yet.

In order to install the Prodigy P3 you will just need the Plug-In Adapter # 22292.
