Is There a Difference Between Backup Cameras and Observation System Cameras
Question:
Is the only difference between a back-up camera and an observation camera that the observation camera is always on? Cant it then be used for both purposes?

The difference between the two style of camera setups is the intended use of them but they aren't fundamentally different. An observation system typically will come on when the blinkers are applied or if you wire the activation circuit to the running light circuit you can get it to come on basically at any time. A backup camera like the Buyers Products # 3378883000 typically intended to be ran to just the reverse light circuit but in reality you can run it to a switch or running light circuit too to make it an "observation system" as well.
