For your 2018 Forester we do have both 1-1/4-inch Class II and 2-inch Class III hitches from several makers. We always recommend the larger and higher weight capacity Class III hitch when the option exists because this size offers broader compatibility with hitch accessories and does not cost much more than the Class II models. Installation on your Forester will be pretty much identical regardless of hitch class or brand so you might as well get the most for your money.

The hitch I recommend for your Forester is the Draw-Tite # 75876 because of its combination of higher capacity and easier installation. You can refer to the linked photo to see this hitch's appearance once installed and the linked installation video shows you the entire process.

If your intended use for the hitch is a cargo or bike carrier you will want to be sure to choose compatible Class III accessories. For a cargo carrier the 20 x 59-inch Curt model # C18151, which can fold up, is a great option with its 500-lbs capacity. If a family biking trip is in the plans then you can use a high capacity 4-bike rack like the Yakima FullSwing # Y02465 which gives you complete access to the rear hatch because it swings fully over to the passenger side of the Forester.

If it is just two bikes you need to transport then the hitch bike rack I recommend is the Thule EasyFold # TH903202. This may well be the very last bike rack you ever need to buy. The EasyFold packs more features and flexibility than almost any other rack made.

It fits both 1-1/4-inch and 2-inch hitches; it handles heavy bikes (up to 65-lbs each); it can work fine with wide tires simply by adding longer wheel straps # TH985101; it has a foot-lever tilt mechanism that makes it easy to get to the back of the vehicle; it includes a bike loading ramp so you do not have to lift your bikes; it includes locks and it folds to a compact size and shape. It even has built-in wheels for easy handling. Please refer to the linked photo. All in all, this premium rack packs tremendous value and it is likely to work great with just about any type of bike you might own in the future, including electric bikes.
