Troubleshooting Tekonsha POD Brake Controller

Just installed a new controller my light on controller burns red all the time no matter if trailer is hooked to truck or not and does not turn green at all. I wired mine into factory wiring harness under dash 2016 dodge ram 1500

With a Reese Pod brake controller # 39523 that always has the red LED that never turns green, there are a couple things to consider. I recommend using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to test functions starting with the red wire to your controller. You should only see power on that wire when you press the brake pedal. When the pedal is not pressed, there should be no power on that red wire. If there is, check your connection and the corresponding pin in the factory harness. Test the other pins as one should only have power when you hit that brake pedal. If so the pin out at the factory may have been wrong and can easily be changed at your wiring harness. Just to confirm, you should be using wiring harness # 3024-P.

If that works correctly, then I recommend dialing your adjustment on your controller down. If that doesn't change anything, then I recommend checking your 7-way at your bumper and cleaning the pins with sand paper or steel wool. Sometimes corrosion can cause the brake output pin at the 5 o'clock position to have a constant power draw that will impact that light on your controller.
