How to Add Electric Drum Brakes to a Top Hat Econo Angle Utility Trailer

Question:

Happy New Year. I just purchased a TopHat Econe Agle Utility 16foot trailer without brakes. It has 2 3500 Dexter axles. I would like to purchase and install part # 23-468-469. Juts need assurance that it will fit on to my Dexter 3500 axels. Also what else do I need? On my truck I already have factory installed trailer brake controller. On the trailer in addition to the Nev-R-Adjust Dexter brakes I need a receiving/controller? I also need to upgrade the 4 plug to 7 plug on the trailer. Actually, I rather keep the 4 plug already on the trailer came factory installed but add a 7-way plug. Thank you for your help.

In order to install electric drum brakes on your Top Hat Econo Angle Utility Trailer you will need braking assemblies, hub/drums, a breakaway kit, and trailer wiring. For the braking assemblies, I recommend using the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # 23-468-469 because they are self-adjusting which means you don't need to make continual adjustments for even pad wear.

For the hubs/drums, I recommend using the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # 84546UC3 because it comes with bearings/races/seals and everything else you need for installation. For a breakaway kit, I recommend the Tekonsha Shur-Set III Trailer Breakaway Kit part # 2028 because it has a built-in battery charger that will prevent overcharging. For trailer wiring, I recommend the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit part # e99011 because it is very easy to install and comes with all of the other butt connectors and ring terminals you will need. The factory 4-way trailer connector can still be used if rewired into the junction box. This will be everything you need.

I have attached install/review videos as well as a help article on adding electric drum brakes for you.

Question:

84546UC3 is this for only one or is it a pair?

The Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # 84546UC3 is for just one hub. You would need two per axle.
