The issue you described is most likely attributed to a poor ground. This poor ground can be on the taillight assemblies themselves or on the trailer connector. If the taillights ground with a single wire then I recommend removing the ground for both as well as the trailer connector ground and then running them to a single point on the trailer frame that is a bare metal surface free of any paint. If the lights ground via the mounting hardware then remove the lights, sand down the surface, and then reattach. Don't forget to reground the trailer side trailer connector as well if the the taillights ground via the mounting hardware.

If the issue with your turn signals still persists even after both taillight assemblies and the trailer connector have been regrounded then you will want to check for any corrosion inside the trailer connectors, cleaning any out if present, and then reattaching with dielectric grease part # 11755 in between.
