Question:
Your website says this will work with a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. But Direclinks site says it only works with Toyotas that are 2008 and newer. Can you explain why it will work when the manufacturers site says it wont?

I spoke with my contact at Tuson regarding the DirecLink Base Model Trailer Brake Controller # 335DL-100 and your 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The potential issue with regards to fitment for this controller on trucks prior to 2008 is that not all of them are equipped with the factory 16-pin OBD-II port under the dash that this hooks up to. Many previous model year trucks do have this port but many do not, making it difficult to confirm fitment accross the board which is why Tuson lists compatibility this way.
To ensure that the controller will work on your Tacoma you will just want to search for the 16-pin OBD-II port. If one is present then the DirecLink will work great. While you are looking for the OBD-II port you will also want to check for a brake controller plug-in port with which you can use the Tekonsha # 3040-S for easy installation. If you don't have this port then you will just need to hardwire in the controller.
