Solution for Using Bike Rack and Cargo Carrier Together

Hello, I own a HR1000 Hollywood Racks Sport Rider 2 2-Bike Platform Rack - 1-1/4, 2inch Hitches - Frame Mount I’m wanting to know if there is a way I could use a dual hitch receiver adapter to add a hitch mounted cargo carrier? Which I do not own yet 2002 Ford sport Trac 2wd. Truck sits about 2” higher than stock model. The bike rack will hold 2 bikes at 40lbs each The cargo carrier would need to hold 70-100lbs Is this even a possibility? Would I need an extension as well to clear the bike rack? Thank you

We do have a solution for a bike rack and cargo carrier; your best option would be to use the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 Platform Bike Rack w/ Cargo Carrier # HR1450Z-85 because this has a 50 lb per bike capacity and the carrier has a 100 lb capacity when attached to the bike rack, which suits your needs perfectly. The cargo carrier can also be removed from the rack and can be used on its own. The carrier has a 220 lb capacity when used by itself.

The reason the Hollywood # HR1450Z-85 is the best option as opposed to using something like the Dual 2" Receiver Tube Adapter # D-192 is that adapters will reduce the tongue weight of the hitch on your 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac by 50 percent. The two trailer hitches that fit your truck, the Draw-Tite # 75112 and Curt # 13407 each have tongue weights of 500 lbs so that means the weight of your bike rack, bikes, cargo carrier and cargo would need to weigh a combined 250 lbs or less.

The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider # HR1000Z and a pair of 40 lb bikes would weigh about 120 lbs so your cargo carrier and cargo could weigh no more than 130 lbs. The only real option for a cargo carrier would be the Stromberg Carlson Cargo Carrier # CC-100 which weighs approximately 40 lbs and does not have a rise in the shank, it is flat; however, even with a flat carrier there may not be enough room for your cargo to fit under the rack.

I have added links to a couple video reviews of the Hollywood bike rack/cargo carrier combo for you to check out.
