Recommended 2-1/2 Inch Trailer Hitch for 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500 with Best Ground Clearance

Question:

My factory trailer receiver sits just under the bumper. How much lower from the bottom of the bumper will this hitch set, or how much lower from factory will the receiver opening sit. My trailer was level with the factory receiver height and this is important to me as I just purchased a BandW hitch that is at the maximum adjustment height to level the trailer tongue.

We haven't had the chance to install the Curt Class V Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15703 on the 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500 so I don't have exactly how far beneath the bumper the receiver will sit, however I did go out to our warehouse to take a measurement that will help you determine this.

From the front bracket where the hitch will attach to the frame rails of your Silverado to the bottom of the receiver there is a distance of 9-3/4 inches. You can take this measurement down from the bottom of the frame rails on your truck to see exactly where the receiver will sit when installed.

Most likely this hitch will sit a bit lower than the factory unit on your truck based on pictures of this hitch installed on earlier model Silverados as well as the fact that there is another hitch available with a smaller measurement.

The Class V hitch for your 2008 Chevy Silverado 2500 (as long as it has the 8 foot bed) that will sit closer to the bottom of the bumper is the Draw-Tite # DT45519. From the frame rail bracket to the bottom of the receiver there is a distance of just 7-1/2 inches on this hitch. This will be your best option for a Class V 2-1/2 inch hitch that will sit closest against the bottom of the truck's bumper.

I have attached a couple images to assist.
