Recommendation For Weight Distribution on 2011 GMC 2500HD Towing 2008 Dutchman 27 Foot Trailer

I own a 2008 Dutchman Blackcomb 27 trailer that i want to buy the proper hitch for my truck. The trailer is 8400lbs gross. The hitch receiver is 2 1/2. Can you advise me?

When choosing a weight distribution system you will want one that has a tongue weight capacity range that encompasses the trailer tongue weight when loaded and ready to tow and that also includes the weight of any gear loaded behind the rear axle of your 2011 GMC 2500 HD. I am including a link to a FAQ page on weight distribution.

With the gross trailer weight rating of your 2008 Dutchman Blackcomb trailer at 8,400 lbs, the tongue weight range of 15 to 20 per cent would be 840 lbs to 1260 lbs. For that tongue weight range I would recommend the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution with Sway Control, part # RP66075. This system will include the Dual-Cam sway control that will stop trailer sway before it begins. I am including a link to the installation instructions on the Reese system.

The only other items needed would be the Reese Weight Distribution Shank, part # RP54977, and the Curt 2-5/16 Inch Hitch Ball, part # 63840.

I am including a video link of the Reese Strait-Line weight distribution being installed on a truck and trailer.
