I measured the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch # 75712 that fits your 2009 Jeep Patriot and found that it measures about 35-3/4 inches long and from the rear of the cross tube to the front of the receiver is 7-3/4 inches.
This is a Class III hitch with a 2" receiver and has a tongue weight capacity of 525 lbs and towing capacity of 3,500 lbs. It is a complete bolt-on installation so you will not have to drill into your Patriot's frame to mount it. The hitch has a black powder coat to resist rust and comes with a lifetime warranty. I have added a link to a video of this hitch being installed on an '09 Patriot for you to check out.
For wiring which will give you a 4-way connector and allow you to power your trailer's lights you need Wiring Harness # 118552. To install this harness you will only need to plug it into connection points behind your taillights and run a hot lead to your battery. I have attached a link to a video of this harness being installed in a 2009 Jeep Patriot to show you how easy it really is.
