Recommended Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution for Towing a GVWR 7,475 Trailer with a 2017 Ram 2500

Question:

Tow vehicle is a 2017 RAM 2500 CTD with Class V receiver. The trailer is a Polomino Solaire 251RBSS, total length 29.2’ with a tongue weight of 560lbs and GVWR of 7475lbs. I thinking of getting the BlueOx BXW0756 WDH, I am concerned that I will not getting enough drop with the included shank to have the truck and trailer perfectly level. The center of receiver on the truck to ground is 24”. The truck has a rack of about 1-1 1/2inch up on the rear. With trailer level the distance from the ground to the ball is 21.5”. If you could provide a part number for a shank that will work for my situation that would be awesome. Thanks,

When determining what rise/drop you need for a towing setup you just take the height from the ground to top of the inside of the receiver on your tow vehicle and then from the ground to the bottom of the trailer coupler (when it is level). In your case it sounds like you need a drop of 3-1/2" with a max of 5-1/2" if you were just measuring to the top of your trailer coupler.

The Blue Ox SwayPro # BXW0756 you referenced actually has a max drop of 7" so it would allow your towing setup to sit level. With that being said, I do recommend going with the next size up which is part # BXW1006. This is because you want the total tongue weight (TTW) of your towing setup to fall in the middle of the tongue weight (TW) range of your weight distribution (WD) system. Since TTW is found by adding the loaded TW of your trailer with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your 2017 Ram 2500 the 750 lbs - 1,000 lbs range of the system I referenced should be right where you need it.

This system uses the same shank with a max drop of 7" but the hitch ball is sold separately. You can use part # A-90 for a 2" hitch ball or part # 19286 for a 2-5/16" hitch ball.

I have attached a review video of this WD system for you to check out.
