Why is Truck Fifth Wheel Towing Capacity Much Higher than Cargo Capacity

Question:

We have the same issue as Tony. Our 2019 3500 decal on the door jam says the maximum weight that we can add to the truck is 3570 lbs. Cargo in the box, and in the passenger compartment. with 2500 lbs. hitch weight that would leave 1070 lbs. for the 5th wheel hitch and passengers. Then - YIKES what about anything we put in the area over the kingpin. The Solitudes we like have the washer and dryer over the kingpin in a clothes closet. And the washer and dryer are not included in the unit from the factory so the weight would be part of the 1070. Is my thinking correct? What would you do?

Fifth wheel towing capacities are different from cargo weight capacities. The reason is mainly that a fifth wheel hitch essentially attaches to the frame of the truck (the strongest part of it), and the cargo capacity is more related to the weight capacity of the truck's bed. Your truck would have no problem with the weight of your fifth wheel trailer plus the cargo you mentioned adding.

Question:

I am interested in getting the TGMRCK15S (Timbren) SES kit. I just watched the you tube video on installation. I noticed there was a notice to check with etrailer to see if it is OK to install on a 2019 Chevy 3500? Could you check on that?

Timbren has a kit that fits your 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500 but it's not the part number you mentioned as that is designed for the 1500 models. Instead the kit you need is the part # TGMRCK25D which is a confirmed fit for the 2019 Chevy Silverado 3500.

I attached an install video for this kit on a similar Silverado for you to check out as well.
