Bike Rack Needed for 2 Bikes and Rear Hatch Access on a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe

Question:

Im looking at a bike rack for my 2018 Sante fe Sport, I need to carry 2 bikes and lock them but want my trunk to be accessible at the same time. So a hitch mounted bike rack seems to be out of the question. Would this rack be able to support the bikes and have the motorized trunk be able to lift the bikes? if not can you recommend a rooftop rack thats lockable. We plan to take our bikes on road trips and need access to the trunk at all times and dont want to have to take the bikes on and off everytime. Thanks

I do have a great solution for you but trunk mount bike racks like the Thule OutWay # TH45JV you referenced need to be removed when opening up the trunk or hatch of your vehicle because it adds a bit of extra weight and the racks are meant to only hold bikes in one orientation.

Although a roof rack and bike racks would eliminate the need to remove anything from behind your hatch we carry swinging hitch mount bike racks that allow you to gain full access to the rear of your 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe very easily. If you check out the RockyMounts BackStage # RKY10002 it not only has the tilting ability for quick access to your rear hatch but it also has the integrated swinging arm so that you can walk right up to your hatch and not worry about maneuvering around bikes and a bike rack.

This bike rack also features bike and rack locks for the security you are talking about as well as a wheel mount design which makes it compatible with any bike that doesn't have a front fender. Additionally the BackStage can handle up to 2 bikes weighing 60 lbs each with a max tire width of 5". The bike rack itself is a little hefty at 60 lbs but since it comes with a lock and it swings out of the way you can leave it installed the entire time you are on your trip if you'd like. I have attached a review video of this rack on a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe so you can see exactly how this will look on your vehicle.

The only other thing you need is a trailer hitch and for that I recommend the etrailer.com Trailer Hitch Receiver # E98841. This features a rugged, matte black finish, a 2" receiver, is made in the USA, and comes with a limited lifetime warranty. Attached is an installation video on the same 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe that was used in the bike rack video for you to reference.

If you would still rather go with the roof rack option just let me know and I can recommend some parts numbers but this option gives you the option to easily load/unload your bikes while retaining the option to access your hatch area completely.
