Best Way to Adapt A25 to Ford F-250 Prep Package

Question:

I HAVE A 2016 F-250 LONG BED BROUGHT BRAND NEW AND HAD THE FORD CENTER BALL MOUNT SUPPORT UNDER BED ALREADY. IT HAS THE HOLES FOR THE 5TH WHEEL ALSO. THE CURT 16180 WILL NOT LINE UP WITH THE FORD STUFF. WHAT DO I NEED TO MAKE IT WORK. IM SCAMBLING A BIT HERE I PICK UP MY NEW TRAILER WEDNESDAY. DO I NEED TO TANK TO INSTALL THE CURT BRACKETS OR DO I EVEN NEED THEM WITH THE FORD STUFF ALREADY THERE SO LOOKING AT THIS IT APPEARS THAT I NEED TO REMOVE THE FACTORY STUFF TO GET THE CURT RAILS AND BRACKETS IN PROPERLY. IS THIS TRUE?

It is possible to still use the Curt A25 part # C16180 in a 2016 F-250 8 foot bed with a Ford prep package. The Curt A25 is designed to fit industry standard fifth wheel rails with its original legs. You can either switch the legs of the hitch to fit into the factory holes or use a gooseneck to fifth wheel adapter.

The best way to adapt the A25 is to switch out the legs. You can switch the legs of the A25 to fit into the factory holes in your bed with part # C16017. The new legs fit the head of the A25 and are designed to lock into place in the factory holes with rotating tabs. Please keep in mind the legs are rated for 24,000. So after you switch the legs, the hitch is rated for 24,000 lbs instead of 25,000 lbs. You also get to keep the extra space in your truck bed.

Another option is the Reese fifth wheel rail adapter part # RP30156. The adapter basically gives you rails in the bed of the truck to attach the A25 to without switching out the legs. It connects to the factory holes in the truck bed and locks into place. The adapter is rated for 20,000 lbs so the use of the adapter lowers the weight capacity of the A25 by 5,000 lbs.

Switching out the legs causes you to lose 1,000 lbs of weight capacity compared to the adapter at 5,000 lbs. Also the use of the adapter defeats the purpose of having a factory prep package on the Ford since you are adding rails to the bed. I have attached a video of the adapter and the legs for your reference.
