Warranty of 2007 Nissan Pathfinder and Aftermarket Transmission Cooler
Question:
Arguing with Nissan and extended warranty folks about this well-documented problem. One level of warranty covers the radiator and the next level covers the transmission cooler. Can the transmission cooler be replaced without replacing the radiator?

We definitely have had people install an aftermarket transmission cooler on their Nissan Pathfinder before so it is possible, but I would be surprised if that was something that Nissan would be okay with under their warranty. It is our understanding that the transmission cooler is actually inside the radiator.
If you were to go this route then you will need to find the largest aftermarket cooler you can find. For this application I recommend the Derale Hyper-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit # D13960 which requires 13" wide x 10" tall x 5-5/8" deep of space for it to fit.
Please note that Derale says that their coolers are meant to be supplemental coolers and they recommend using it with the original transmission cooler which is why you need to get the biggest cooler you can.
You can also use the Derale Premium In-Line Fan Control Thermostat # D35020 so that you don't have to remember to turn the fan on and off while you are driving around.
