Why Cant Different Size Wheels Be Used on the Same Trailer

Question:

I just destroyed a 14x6 rim on my double axle ez loader trailer. I havent measured it but was told it is 6 wide. I cant find many replacement models for 14x6, but I see a lot of 14x5.5. If I replace both rims and tires on one side, will it matter if the rims are different width than the other side? all four tires are st205/75r14

I do not recommend that you use both 14x6 and 14x5.5 wheels on the same trailer. The tire size that you mentioned, 205/75-14 will fit both of these wheels yes but when used on a 14x6 wheel it will have a larger contact patch than when used with the smaller wheel size, 14x5.5. This smaller contact patch could very well cause issues with tracking as well as irregular wear patterns so I cannot recommend you do this.

The wheel width should more than likely be stamped somewhere on the inner face but if it is not, you can confirm what width you have by measuring inside each bead seat (see photo). If it turns out you do have 14x6 wheels then we do have options for you like part # AM20354. If you send me a photo of your wheel I will do my best to see if we have anything with a similar design.
