Question:
Trying to install Reese 16k goosebox to replace my 1621HD pin box and I have a 1/2” gap. Do I need the spacer kit. I was understanding I didn’t need it for the 1621.

I spoke to my contact at Reese and they informed that in certain cases, there can be additional space between the wing set on the trailer and the mounting plates for the Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter part # RP94716 when replacing a Lippert 1621HD pin box. Therefore, the Spacer Kit for 5th Wheel King Pins part # RP61301 that you referenced is needed. The majority of cases do not require the spacer kit when replacing the Lippert 1621HD pin box but as mentioned, there are some that are which appears to be true for you. I always recommend that you measure first before ordering the Goose Box.
