Hitch Compatibility with 18-Inch Spare Tire on 2017 Dodge Durango
Question:
I reviewed the notes regarding mounting a spare tire. My vehicle has 20inch tires. The Emergency spare indicates it is an 18, but Dodge tells me this is correct for the 20inch tires due to the rim size and that they do not even sell a full size spare option. The notes for the Draw-Tite 79196 indicate a full size 18inch will fit, but a 20inch will not. Can you address the spare tire fit question as it relates to the factory Emergencyinch spare. Also is spare tire fit the same for both concealed and recessed hitches? Thanks

Expert Reply:
All hitches offered for your 2017 Dodge Durango, including the Draw-Tite # DT38MR with concealed cross tube, are compatible with the 18-inch spare but not the 20-inch.
If you refer to the linked photo showing an 18-inch spare in place along with installed hitch # DT38MR you can compare your spare to confirm it matches and that it will be compatible.
If you don't have the tow package and you also need wiring you can use part # 118617 for a 4-pole harness or # TK22113 for a 7-way.
