Availability of Folding Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
Question:
Do any of the 1 1/4 inch carriers fold up or must I put a 2 inch extension on to accomplish this?

Expert Reply:
All of the 1-1/4 inch hitch mounted cargo carriers we have available do feature a fixed shank that won't allow the carrier to tilt up to a folded position when not in use.
With this in mind your only option to install a tilting cargo carrier on your hitch will indeed be to use a 2 inch model like the Curt 20x59 # C18151 with a 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch adapter like the Brophy # HTAD. It is important to note though that using this or any other hitch adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch by 50 percent. For example if your hitch features a 200 pound tongue weight capacity this will be reduced to 100 pounds when using the adapter.
You will just need to make sure the combined weight of both the carrier itself and your loaded cargo don't exceed this reduced number.
