Compatibility of Ladder Rack on 4x8 Utility Trailer

Question:

Hi, I have a 4x8 BigTex Utility trailer that I am thinking about putting a ladder rack on. I would like to be able to carry a ladder and lumber on this rack. My question is how much weight would I be able to carry on it. I am concerned about making my trailer tippy if I put to much weight to high. What are your thoughts?

Adding a ladder rack to your trailer like the MaxxHaul Truck Bed Ladder Rack - 500 lbs # MT70386 will work great when mounting to the floor of your trailer using a 2x4 or something for the mounting edges. The 26 inch height from the horizontal mountto the bottom of the crossbar and 30-1/8 inch overall height shouldn't be an issue for your trailer when you have weight on the top rack as well as the bottom. You will want to be careful not to overload the top as it would allow the trailer to be top heavy causing sway and even roll.

The metal side rails on your trailer are most likely not rated for supporting weight like this so I don't recommend attaching a ladder rack to those sides.
