Parts Needed to Install 7-Way Trailer Wiring on 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Toyota Tacoma 2006 with factory towing package Problem: The right hand turn signal as tested on the trucks 7-way connector is not working correctly. Turn signals work on the truck, but the right turn signal at the trailer connector does not flash…it just stays on. Meaning I get power, but its not flashing. Left turn signal flashes fine. I am testing at the trucks 7-way connector with my 12v tester. Ground clip to ground on connector and touching the right turn signal blade. I hoped I explained it clearly. Its got me confused as to why it does not flash, yet there is power there when the turn signal is on. I was wondering if buying another aftermarket converter from you could fix this……..but so far not sure how to find the Tacoma’s existing converter. Seem like I would need to remove the other one, before installing a new one? Any direction you can point me in would be priceless. Thanks in advance.

Based on your testing it sounds like the truck's tow package has a bad relay for the right stop/turn signal circuit. This trailer wiring is separate from the truck's own right turn light so it is possible for the truck's turn light to flash even if the trailer connector's right turn light does not. I scanned an online manual for the truck but I could not find details on the part required so you may want to check your manual and/or power distribution box cover.

If you prefer to install a whole new trailer wiring setup that bypasses the factory wiring you can do this using parts # 118496 and # ETBC7. These are, respectively, a 4-pole harness that plugs in at the truck's taillights and a 7-way kit that includes all of the other parts needed to upgrade that 4-pole to the 7-way format. An install video is linked to show you how # ETBC7 installs. These two items will give you a complete 7-way that is independent of the factory wiring.
