Question:
I have a 2007 suburban, I’m wondering what the widest cross bars I should or could get? 60” should work for sure, is 70” too big. Endgame, I want/need to get a cargo box 34-36” wide and then room for 2 kayaks.

So long as your 2007 Chevy Suburban has factory-installed raised rails that run front-to-back, you can use the 70" Yakima JetStream Crossbars # Y00427 along with the TimberLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars # Y00147. The recommended length are the 60" # Y00426 but the 70" will work.
Your Suburban does need to have raised rails so you can position the crossbars with the correct spacing to mount a cargo box and kayak carrier.
For a cargo box, the Yakima SkyBox is a great option because it is aerodynamic, has exceptional aesthetics and comes in numerous sizes depending on how much cargo you are looking to carry. It is also 36" wide so you would have space remaining for your kayaks.
- Yakima SkyBox 12 Rooftop Cargo Box - 12 cu ft. # Y07334
- Yakima SkyBox 16 Rooftop Cargo Box - 16 cu ft # Y07335
- Yakima SkyBox 18 Rooftop Cargo Box - 18 cu ft # Y07336
- Yakima SkyBox 21 Rooftop Cargo Box - 21 cu ft # Y07337
So long as your kayaks are placed on their side and are narrow enough you could then use the Thule Stacker # TH830 which comes with enough tie-downs for both of your kayaks.
I have added links to video reviews for you to check out.
