Yes, in order to install a Curt Custom 5th Wheel Bracket Kit (or any other 5th wheel bracket kit) on your 2017 Ram 2500 your existing gooseneck hitch would need to be removed as both systems require the same mounting space on the frame rails. The correct Curt Rail Kit for your Ram is actually the part # C16427-204. The kit you were looking at is designed for earlier model years of the Ram 2500.
The Curt Installation Kit will provide your truck with industry-standard, above-bed base rails that are compatible with most 5th wheel hitches on the market such as the excellent A20 # C16180.
Another potential option if you happen to have the B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch installed on your truck is to use the Companion # BWRVK3500-5W or the Slider version # BWRVK3400-5W if you have the short bed. The Companion is designed to drop right into the Turnoverball gooseneck hole and is considered by many to be one of the best 5th wheel hitches on the market because of its superior jaw design and overall heavy-duty construction. This would allow you maintain your existing gooseneck hitch and keep a clean bed when the Companion is removed.
I have attached a video demonstration that you can check out as well.
