Is it Normal for 7-Way Tester to Show Voltage on Brake Output Circuit from Brake Controller

Question:

Hi, I have an installed TriFlex Curt brake control on a 2019 GMC Canyon. When I plugin a 7 way LED tester into the 7 way trailer plug out let. I get a lighted LED on the BK electric brake output with a measured 12 volt output. Will the cause the electric trailer brakes to lock up? Why is there 12 volts on BK electric brake output with out a trailer connected? Thank You

Expert Reply:

So brake controllers send a small "blip" of voltage on the brake output circuit very frequently to try and detect brake magnets and from there make determination if there is a trailer connected. What you are seeing is normal it sounds like!
