The Mopar Recreational Flat Tow Wiring Kit part 68321424AB is required on select Jeep Cherokee's in order to activate the electronic power steering (EPS) system while the vehicle is in tow mode. This part must be obtained from the dealer but since you have a part number now that should make things easier on their end. If they still cannot find this then you can have them reference the Technician Service Bulletin 08-010-17 (unless superseded).

If you can provide me with the year of your Jeep Cherokee I may have more information on whether or not the Mopar Recreational Flat Tow Wiring Kit part 68321424AB is required and the rest of the parts needed to complete your flat-tow setup.

If I have a 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk, do I need the flat tow wiring kit to peer the steering? If not how to get the steering powered? I can’t figure that out.. thank you in advance

The Mopar harness mentioned above isn't needed for your 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk (Jeep resolved this issue starting with the '18 model year vehicles). Instructions for getting the Jeep ready for flat towing, including making sure the steering wheel is unlocked, should be outlined in your owner's manual.

@ChrisR Are you sure on the issue was fixed in 2018? I just bought a 2019 and it has electric power steering (EPS) and am assembling my required parts list. Is there a TSB or official notice from FCA?

@EdwinD Jeep did make changes to the newer model Cherokee's that eliminate the need to use that Mopar harness for flat towing. You will not need to add this to your parts list for the '19 Cherokee.

@ChrisR Thanks! I found the official Fiat Chrysler press release document for the 2019 model not requiring the special flat tow harness.

@EdwinD No problem at all!

@EdwinD Do you have a link to that press release?

@ChrisR we have 2018 Cherokee trailhawk ... we were told by the RV dealer that this issue (death wobble) was corrected in 2018... I am concerned that they are incorrect... how can I test this out to see if it’s a true concern? Also, if it is, how would I attach the harness after my flat tow receptacle has already been installed?

@JohnnyR From what I could find the Mopar harness is still needed for the 2018 model Cherokee. You could contact a local Jeep dealer to verify this though. They should also have info on how to actually obtain and install the harness as well.

@ChrisR I called the Jeep dealer. He pulled up my vin number and I gave him the part number. He said according to what he sees my Jeep doesn’t need it. I still don’t feel like he knows what he’s talking about. If I leave the acc on while towing and have a charge line attached from the coach, will this fix the EPS problem?

@JohnnyR I have to recommend that you follow the flat towing procedures listed in the Jeep's owner's manual. I suppose leaving the ACC on may keep the power steering active, but I'm not sure if this would negatively affect something else (other than just the battery potentially draining).

@EdwinD Can you send a link or copy of press release? Thanks

@JohnnyR I have a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland and the death wobble happened with me. I am now scheduling the fix with my local dealer.

I have a 2015 Jeep Grand CHerokee Overland. Is the flat tow wiring kit required on my vehicle? Thank you.

Yes, you will be required to have all the proper lighting and breaking functions to be able to flat tow your 2015 Grand Cherokee. I will provide a few links so that you can take a look at a few different kits that we have available for your car.
