Lippert Smart Jack Extends On Its Own

Question:

The battery light is flashing all segments of the light arr flashing. When I parked the trailer the jack was down. Now the jack is in the raised position I did not raise it myself, the battery light is continuously flashing and the jack will not move. When I attempt to move the jack with buttons on top it does not even make a sound like it is trying to move. The slides on the trailer move in and out and the lights work. That would suggest that the battery is good. I also hooked the trailer up to the truck and attempted to lower the jack. The jack still did not move.

It sounds like water has got into the circuit board on your Lippert Smart Jack Electric Trailer Jack part # LC643589 as this is a common issue that causes the jack to raise and lower on its own. There was a recall for this and it sounds like you have a pre-recall version but in order to confirm you can look on the back of the jack for a sticker on the stem with a serial number. If there is no serial number present or if it is lower than SJWP2017-07-0001, then the jack was made prior to the recall and it will need to be replaced.

If the serial number is higher than SJWP2017-07-0001, the jack was made after the recall. If the jack is under warranty then I recommend you file a claim but if not you have no other option but to replace the jack on your own because the parts that are damaged are not repairable. I recommend the Stromberg Carlson Electric Trailer Jack part # JET-3755 which is very easy to install and has a level built-in the head. There is also a cover for this jack, the Vinyl Cover with Drawstrings for Stromberg Carlson Electric Jacks part # JET-01 so you don't have anymore issues like the above.
