Question:
The ball moves with the nut making no progress at all. Bough some channel locks to try and hold the ball while using the recommended wrench. No luck... What now?

Do you have a really large crescent wrench you could use to grab onto the slotted sides of the hitch ball on the Curt ball mount # C45036? Channel locks would not be my first choice as they also require you to squeeze the handles to hold the ball which will be too difficult. A large crescent wrench or even a really large vice grip might be best way to grab the hitch ball.
