Replacement 5-Way Trailer Wiring for Boat Trailer
Question:
I just bought a boat with a rouge trailer that has surge brakes. The wiring or shall I say attempt to rewire the trailer has rusted in wiring taped to the outside of the frame. I want to return to original with wiring inside the tubing. The trailer has a surge brake and presently has a four pin connector but does not appear to have the surge brake wired in. I have a 2009 ford f250 with a factory install four pin and a I think a 7 pin round connection. the trailer is approx 26 ft long and 8 1/2 ft wide. What wiring harness do I need, what connector do I need and is there a diagram on how to rewire? Thanks,

For new 5-way wiring what you'll need is the part # A40W5B. This will handle all of the wiring that runs from the connector back to the lighting assemblies as well as for a reverse lock out solenoid. Surge brakes don't always require wiring as they don't always have reverse lock out solenoids. It's very possible yours does not have one so wiring may not be needed. If you see a solenoid at the back of the actuator on the brake line you will want to run the blue wire of the 5-way to it.
I attached a trailer wiring diagram for you to check out as well.
Since you have a 7-way and a 4-way you'll need a 5-way adapter for the 7-way with the # A10-7275VP.
