How To Tow a Trailer with the Tailgate Down
Question:
Trying to haul golf cart but tail gate in way of camper. Camper 6800 lbs

Expert Reply:
If you will be towing a 6,800 lb camper while also using the Curt Extender for 2" Receivers part # C45796 that means the trailer hitch on your vehicle will need to have a 13,600 lb weight capacity because these types of adapters reduce your weight capacity but 50%. A much better option for you will be to use a ball mount with extended shank like the Curt Class III Drawbar part # C45270 which has a 7,500 lb weight capacity and measures 13" from the center of hitch pin hole to center of ball hole. If you measure this portion of the ball mount you are using that will then tell you what you need to clear the tongue jack which I assume is what you are hitting with your tailgate.
I have attached a list of our ball mounts with extended shanks, just make sure to check the weight capacity and that it has the correct rise/drop you need before purchase. If you are using a weight distribution system you can use the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank part # EQ90-02-4600 no matter which one you have to solve your problem.
