How Much Torque Is Needed To Pre-Load the Bearings On a Dexter Mobile Home Axle

what is nut torque torque to pre-load bearings on Dexter mobile home axle

Expert Reply:

There is not an exact torque specification to pre-load the bearings on a mobile home axle. The spindle nut will need to be tightened by hand until finger tight and then turned another 1/4 of a turn with a wrench. This will be around 15 ft-lbs but you should not be using any sort of torque wrench for this. Once this is done you can then turn the hub ten or so times to seat the bearings and races but don't forget to back the spindle nut off some before you install the cotter pin and put the wheels on.
