Solution for Offset Convert-A-Ball Hitting Bed Rails on 218 Ram 2500 Short Bed

Question:

I bought the offset Convert-a-ball adapter from you guys for my camper b/c I have a 2018 ram 2500 6 1/2 ft bed but twice now my pin box has hit the bed rails when turning. I think with the offset it makes the pin box to long, thus hittin the bed rails. I have raised the adapter to as high as it will go and have about 7 inches of clearance between the bed rails and the bottom of the fifth wheel. Do you think I could possibly get away with the non offset type of adapter and not hit the cab? This would make my pin box lenght shorter and solve my bedrail problem. Any help would be appreciated.

You can try the non-offset Convert-A-Ball # CAB-C5G instead of the part # CAB-C5GX1216 but since your 2018 Ram 2500 has the 6-1/2' bed I'm pretty sure you're going to run into cab clearance issues. If the distance from the center of your 5th wheel king pin is greater than half the width of your trailer by 4" then you won't have any problems making a 90 degree turn with this setup.

Another possible option for you is the Demco Recon # DM8550045 which has a 3" offset. If adding 3" to your center-of-king-pin measurement gives you that 4" clearance that I mentioned then this is the route to go.

Other than that we'll need to look into alternative options. If your Ram has the OEM puck system then I recommend using the Demco Hijacker Autoslide # DM8550035 with the Adapter Kit # DM6099 because it keeps you from getting in and out of the cab during turning. If you don't have the puck system then I recommend the B&W Companion # BWRVK3400-5W which installs in the Gooseneck # BWGNRK1384-5W for a clean bed when you aren't towing.

I have attached review videos for each that you can check out. Please note that if you have the RamBox we need a different setup entirely. Let me know if this is the case and I can help you choose the correct parts for this application.
